MUSIC The HOODMADE FAMILY
"It's been a long time coming and we still running."

I feel like I been living and breathing hip-hop since I first heard it.
By the time I was a Sophomore in high school I was writing rhymes
every single day. This was back in 91-92. As time went on, I realized
I had to get beats from somewhere if I ever wanted to make my
mark in this game. So in 1998, I bought my first piece of equipment.
A classic joint...Ensoniq ASR-10. Everything changed from there....

I started banging out beats daily. I put everything else aside and
concentrated on perfecting my skill. I isolated myself from the
world on purpose. I moved into a house and didn't get a phone or a
TV. I never went out to clubs or anything. The whole point was to
make beats.  I had a nice arsenal and I was ready to hit the world
off with what I had. The problem was, I was still in the Midwest. I
love my home and my people, but it was looking like mission
impossible trying to get on living there. So, as time went on, I had
to move on in order to move ahead.

In 2000, I moved to Virginia Beach, VA. The scene was becoming
major and hip hop was making it's distinctive mark in VA. Or
should I say, VA was making it's mark in hip-hop. By this time, I
knew the ASR-10 like I knew the palm of my hand, but nothing was
cracking. I was an unknown name in a new town that already had
major names making major moves. Frustration started to set in
and momentarily, I lost sight of the dream.

Sometimes it just takes the smallest thing to make something big
happen inside of you. Through a mutual friend, I met Wesley
Hogges. (It's something about actually SEEING somebody with
platinum plaques as opposed to hearing B.S. talk that really opens
your eyes.) Wes had been doing big things for a few years with
artists like Blackstreet, Donnell Jones, Guy and Dave Hollister. At
the time I met him, he was working on Jaheim's first album,
Ghetto Love.

It was really the inspiration of Wes that made me go hard at this.
Once Wes heard what I was working with and liked it, I knew that I
couldn't stop. I would have never stopped anyway. After all, it didn't
matter if I got paper from this or not. It was just what I loved to
do. As soon as I knew that I had something official on my hands, I
kept making product. "Stockpiling" is what Wes calls it.

Now, I make beats more than rhymes. I'll never give up the mic,
but I recognized that my strongest ability is behind the boards and
on the beats. You gotta play your position and know your role for
your team to win, right?  Nuff said.
